Cimabue Giovanni is one of the most celebrated Italian painters in history. Cimabue lived between 1240-1302 years and created a lot of breathtaking paintings and mosaics form Florence in Italy. He was given a nickname by the friends which means a bull-head or one that crushes other people’s opinions. This was as a result of his nature of being gratified of his work, and scornful of criticisms. Because of the inadequate done on his work, there is very little information known about the artist. Historians believe that the artist trained in Florence under the supervision of unknown instructors that were connected to the Byzantine cultural art. In fact, he was the first artist to move out of the Byzantine traditional arts. The artist finally died in Pisa, leaving behind a great legacy.

Among his pieces of art, Cimabue made several paintings and mosaics. Among his first painting he did was the crucifixion of Jesus which he did in the San Domenico church in Arezzo as an assignment by Pietro Toesca; an Italian historian of art. Later, he created another one, which the Arno River floods damaged in 1926, in Santa Croce. Moreover, Cimabue took part in the decorations of the transept and apse of the Assisi’s Upper Basilica, and other churches at the same period. Some of the surviving works of the large crucifix for Sta, Madonna Enthroned with St Francis, and Trinita Madonna.

Cimabue worked in many parts of the world creating paintings and mosaics. Some of his artistic works are located at Pisa, Rome, Santa Crose, Lourve Museum, and Bologna. Some of the paintings and mosaic are also stored in the Uffizi Gallery and Santa Trinita church. Despite the loss, there are other paintings and mosaics at Assisi and other places where he worked in Rome. Moreover, Cimabue’s works are found at San Francesco lower church at Assisi.

Additionally, the artist’s skills and interest in painting and mosaic was stimulated by the Giotto who was known as a solo artist. Most of his works was also overshadowed by the renaissance period in Italy. Therefore, this is an implication that his artistic works were greatly influenced by the old artists. In addition, his passion for painting was triggered by his love for the Roman Classical drapery methods.

As one of the most popular artists in Italy, Cimabue became a great motivation to many artists. It is also clear that Cimabue’s works were breathtaking because they managed to influence many other young artists in the past and the contemporary society. Some of the artists influenced by his works are Giotto and Duccio who were attracted to Cimabue’s high qualities and openness to a variety of sources. Therefore, his works are even notable in the contemporary society as they formed an important basis of the modern paintings and mosaics.

Cimabue is one of the greatest artists in the whole world. Having existed at an era that knew no technology, he managed to create beautiful mosaic, and paintings in several places in Italy. I believe that Cimabue’s artistic works are very captivating as they have had a major influence in the modern generation. The fact that he balanced between the traditional Byzantine and the naturalism techniques demonstrates his competence in works of art.   In conclusion, Cimabue is among the most celebrated Italian artists worldwide. Among his surviving works are the large crucifix of Sta, Trinita Madonna, and the Madonna Enthroned with St Francis. With time, his works reduced so that a few of his surviving works are located in different places, such as, Uffizi Gallery, Pisa, Rome, Santa Crose, Lourve Museum, Bologna, and Santa Trinita church. Additionally, the artist was influenced by his interest in the Roman Classical techniques. Moreover, his works are so breathtaking such that they are of great influence in the young artists.
